Bedroom Bliss

The bedroom is a place you can retreat to and should be a space of serenity and calm. Now more than ever, people are looking for retreats within their home to find a quiet escape.

For this space, I worked with The Home Depot Canada to bring it to life. From furniture to paint and rugs to flooring, I was able to get everything I needed to create this country retreat all with the safety of “at home” delivery.

This was a fairly straight-forward space, but I wanted to add some exciting and out-of-the-box designs to really give it some detail and texture. A great DIY hack that’s also budget friendly is to add wall detailing. Instead of my typical feature wall, I opted to add detail to ALL four walls.  I found shoe molding at The Home Depot Canada and had it installed horizontally around the space. I chose Behr’s Seagull Gray to paint them out and instead of painting them a different colour than the walls, I painted them the same colour.  I even took it a step further and decided to paint out the trim and door in a slight darker shade than the walls. This helped to make the room look larger as there was no contrasting visually stops in the space. This updated the space in a modern way but also paid homage to the old farmhouse trend of painted trim back in the day, to this country property.

Next up, the flooring had to be replaced. I chose a laminate wide plank oak. This helped to

lightened up the space as well as modernized the room.  The flooring system is a great do it yourself project if you have the time. We made sure to add new underlay and padding for that nice underfoot feel when you are moving around in the morning or night or tip toeing to bed without the creaks to wake up your partner.

Now for the fun part, styling and bringing the space to life!  This home has a country setting so I wanted to go a bit more traditional with the space but add a modern twist. I found this stunning blue and white bedframe at The Home Depot Canada. I knew instantly that this would be the piece that was really going to make an impact and the starting point for the décor direction. I really loved that I could source everything from one spot and have it delivered right to the client’s home – from the cute side tables and lamps to the throw pillows and art work I really didn’t know The Home Depot Canada had such diverse items that could bring this space to life.

We wanted a bit of privacy in the space but also did not want to block the light from the window. I was immediately attracted to the wicker roman blinds which worked perfectly with the wall colour.

I love being able to use what clients have already where I can, and I was fortunate that this couple had some great antique finds that I could add into the space.  I loved being able to tie in the old and the new to make this space more unique and personal.
