Designing a Kitchen That Grows With You!

When it comes to a kitchen renovation, I always start with my clients — how they live, what they need, and what they’ve always dreamed of having in their space.

For my latest lakeside project, the kitchen really did become the heart of the home. It’s part of an open-concept space overlooking the lake, so I wanted the design to complement those incredible views rather than compete with them. When you have that much natural beauty right outside your windows, the last thing you want is a kitchen that steals the show. Clean, calm and timeless was the goal.

For the cabinetry, I went with classic white cabinets from Rocpal Custom Cabinets rocpal.com . Their team was fantastic from the initial l design right through to installation, and I love that their cabinetry is made right here in Canada, in Oshawa. It’s always nice when great design and local craftsmanship come together so seamlessly.

With those soaring 20-foot ceilings, lighting was a big one. The fixtures needed to hold their own in such a large space but still feel warm and inviting. Four gorgeous sconces from Kohara Co. https://koharaco.com/ brought in the gold detailing I wanted, while three oversized pendants above the island helped anchor the space. And let's be honest, lighting can make or break a kitchen!

Now for one of my favourite details — what I like to call the jewellery of the kitchen: the faucet.

I paired a deep ceramic farmhouse sink from Bath Depot with a gorgeous gold pull-down faucet from Moen. It’s such a simple combination, but it adds that little bit of wow without feeling too formal or overdone.

To soften everything, I layered in natural textures — woven counter stools, wood cutting boards, greenery and a few organic accessories. These are the details that keep a white kitchen from feeling too stark. They bring warmth, personality and that relaxed, lakeside feel that makes you want to pull up a stool and stay awhile.

The end result is a kitchen that feels fresh, timeless and beautiful, but more importantly, works for the family who lives in it.

Because a kitchen should be more than just a pretty space. It should make everyday life easier, bring people together and still look just as good years down the road.
