The colours we choose for our homes say a lot about us – if they’re bold, if they’re muted, if we stick to neutrals only. Colour also impacts how we feel when we are in our spaces. I meet with a lot of clients who are nervous to add colour to their homes despite being excited by the newest trends in the industry.
This season, I partnered with BeautiTone to explore how you can transform your mood and your space simply by rethinking colour. Colour has the power to change everything, and with BeautiTone paint there’s no emotion you can’t reveal.
If you tend to be colour-cautious – don’t worry! You don’t have to start by painting your entire kitchen bright pink (but I mean you could!). Instead, there are easy ways to rethink colour in an approachable way so you can bring a different mood and personality into your space.
First, embrace and explore how certain colours make you feel. Instead of choosing a colour you think works with your space, pick a hue that inspires an emotion within you.
Does a colour make you feel happy, electrified, or joyful? If so, choose it! BeautiTone, available exclusively at Home Hardware locations across Canada, has over 1,000 colours to choose from and each one can evoke a different emotion allowing you to transform your mood and space.
For years, the wall behind my fireplace has been black, but I’ve been looking to bring a sense of calm and tranquility to my space. This beautiful, earthy green, called Baby Vegetable (C43-1-0753-3) from BeautiTone, does just that!
We are also going to be seeing more greens in design moving forward, so if you green makes you feel good - this shade is one to try!
The other thing to keep in mind is that paint is not permanent. If you want to try a new colour after a few seasons, you can easily change it up.
Another simple way to introduce colour into your home is by painting one or multiple doors! I love to create drama in an entry way by infusing a bold colour for a stunning first impression. BeautiTone’s Colour of the Year, Warm Hugs, (D43-0-1598-3) – is a mid-tone shade of red-pink with an influence of orange.
When I look at this shade, it makes me feel hopeful and comforted – just like a warm hug! And gosh, we could all use a few of those right now!
Sure, painting the inside of your front door isn’t traditional. But don’t be afraid to take risks and paint outside the lines. There are no rules when it comes to colour.
Now, if those projects are a little too bold for you, try refreshing your décor. Paint isn’t just for your walls so consider updating pieces of furniture, such as your desk or dining table, to a colour that will bring new life and emotions into your day-to-day routine.
I picked some items around my house and decided to add some colour!
Green with Envy – Like I said before green makes me feel calm and in control, not to mention festive for the upcoming holiday season. I chose a few shades of green from BeautiTone and transformed some of my existing décor into a beautiful holiday vignette.
Colours I Used:

From this to that:
Pretty in Pink – I love the colour pink and the way it makes me feel – you probably noticed my hair! Pink makes me feel joyful and optimistic, like I am unstoppable. That’s why I was excited to have fun with BeautiTone by infusing Warm Hugs (D43-0-1598-3) and a few warmer shades into my everyday décor.
Colours I used:
By changing the colour of these items, I was able to create a whole new style and converted my old décor into pieces that I’m excited to decorate with again. Just a little paint goes a long way in transforming a space and the mood I’m in!
From this to that:
The colours I chose for these projects may evoke different feelings for you – and that’s okay! Our feelings about colour are often deeply personal and reflect our experiences and culture.
What colour will you be infusing into your space this season?
