Cottage Bedroom Vibes

Ahhhh sleep, sweet sleep. I am obsessed with bedrooms lately! Let’s talk about how to achieve an LA vibe in your sleep space (no matter how big or small!).

I love to start with white, light and bright…those are my rules of thumb when creating a crisp clean and inviting California-vibe sleep haven.

To give the space a fresh update I painted the ceiling in Benjamin Moore’s Chantilly Lace OC-65 and added a fresh coat of Benjamin Moore’s Smoke 2122-40 to the closet doors to give the room a tiny colour pop. After that quick coat of paint, the rest came together seamlessly!

I then moved to the walls. I wanted it to be super simple, so I used Metrie Complete shiplap on the walls. There is no painting or staining needed as they come pre-painted. Making the project that much simpler for timing and cost.

Since the bed is the heart of this makeover, I wanted a one-stop shop that would not only look great but allow guests to get their best night’s sleep. So, I visited Sleep Country to create the ideal sleep environment with products from its diverse wellness sleep assortment. I was able to grab a compact Bloom mattress designed by Sleep Country’s sleep obsessed experts. This mattress contains advanced gel memory foam and latex foams that conform to your body, along with a combination of air channels and mesh sides that regulate your body temperature. I topped the mattress with their PÜR Organic Cotton Sheet Set and PÜR Organic Cotton Duvet Cover Set. I also used their Simba Duvet and Pillows which are temperature regulating and customizable. I chose everything in white for the bedding for the luxe boutique feel.

Neutral colour tones throughout the design concept created the illusion of a larger space. I wanted to do something truly unique in this room so instead of a traditional headboard I used Metrie Complete Shiplap as a half wall and I then added a long shelf across the top of the bed to mimic a headboard. A wall texture and detail like this really adds a wow factor without making the space seem busy or overloaded with décor items.

Homesense was my next stop for the artwork for the feature wall, side table lights, throw pillows, rug and hooks. They truly have an endless assortment to suit all needs at amazing prices.

I do also love to add some fun technology to any space I can so let’s talk smart lighting. I used the Philips Hue White and Colour Ambiance Starter Kit.  The light bulbs use smart technology where you simply download an app (or use the remote control dimmer switch) and you can instantly set the mood with millions of shades of white and colour light. It was easy to set up and, if you want, you can have all three lights set in different colours and tones all with the flick of your finger on their app.  There is even a really cool feature where you can use 'Wake Up With Light' for a relaxing simulated sunrise on your schedule.
